Along with his wife Janet, Kal Barson is the co-founder of The Barson Group, a CPA
firm with offices in Somerville, New Jersey. He graduated from Brooklyn College
with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, and over the years has become
licensed in both New Jersey and New York. In his work as a CPA, he has also
attained the ABV (Accredited in Business Valuation) designation, as well as
the CFE (Certified Fraud Examiner) and the CFF (Certified in Financial
Forensics).
Besides the usual type of services everyone thinks about when they
hear CPA (such as tax and accounting), over the years, Mr. Barson has developed a
specialty in Litigation Support Services. This includes forensic/investigative
accounting, business valuations, funds flow tracing, and a specialty
in the divorce arena. That type of service, along with accounting
and tax in general, has enabled him to be a frequent lecturer, having spoken
on behalf of, or to, various CPA groups, bar associations, and other
professionals. Mr. Barson is the author of several texts as well as several mini-books dealing with Investigative Accounting and Divorce Taxation, as well as Business Valuation; and has had many articles published in professional publications.
Mr. Barson is a former member of the Board as well as former President of the Jewish
Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon & Warren Counties (now called the Jewish
Federation of West-Central New Jersey). He is also a Board member, as well
as the past President (for 8 years) of CPA-USA Association — a nationwide
association of CPA firms.
Mr. Barson has been married for many years to his wife Janet, and they are
blessed with 2 daughters - Rebecca (a graduate of Williams College as well
as having a Master of Public Health Administration from Johns Hopkins) and
Emily (a graduate of George Washington University, and formerly assistant to
Kathleen Sebilius, head of Health & Human Service in the Obama
Administration). They are also proud to have 2 grandsons.
Currently, Mr. Barson is on the Board and active in the NJ Collaborative Law Group. Finally, Mr. Barson performed a 15-minute stand-up routine at the 2023 annual holiday party of the NJ Collaborative Law Group.
