Social Security Log-In

Of relatively recent vintage, you may need to change your Social Security account log-in. If you created an online account with the Social Security Administration (SSA) before September 18, 2021, you will have to start using an account with login.gov – which is a federal government website used to authenticate the identity of online account holders. That will be necessary in order for you to maintain online access. The SSA swears the change will simplify the sign-in experience – yeah, right.

All account holders are encouraged (kind of with a knife in your back) to sign in at ssa.gov/myaccount as soon as possible. When you do that, you will be presented with an option to transition to login.gov. If you already have an account with login.gov or with ID.me, which is another government approved authenticator, you will not need to create a new account or take any other action.
